#Our Captain

Meet Captain Richard

Richard, the heart and soul of R&S Sportfishing, began his fishing journey at an early age. Growing up, he spent countless hours fishing alongside his father on various waterways, including the legendary Colorado River, where he developed his skills targeting trout and striped bass.

Those early experiences sparked a lifelong passion for fishing and laid the foundation for what would eventually become a successful career as a professional fishing guide.

In the early 1990s, Richard relocated to the Pacific Northwest, a move that would forever shape his future and lead to the creation of R&S Sportfishing.

Learning the Pacific Northwest Fisheries

After arriving in the Pacific Northwest, Richard quickly immersed himself in the exciting world of salmon and steelhead fishing. He spent years learning the region's legendary fisheries and studying the habits, migration patterns, and behaviors of some of the most sought-after game fish in North America.

During this time, Richard fished renowned destinations including:

Columbia River

Buoy 10

Drano Lake

Lower Columbia River

Cowlitz River

Astoria-area fisheries

His dedication to learning these waters helped establish the foundation of the guide service that exists today.

A Mentor, Friend, and Fishing Legend

One of the most influential moments in Richard's fishing career came when he met respected guide Clancy Holt.

What began as a client-guide relationship quickly evolved into a close friendship that Richard describes as family. Through years of fishing together, Clancy shared invaluable knowledge, techniques, and insights that helped shape Richard into the guide he is today.

The lessons learned from one of the Pacific Northwest's most respected fishermen continue to influence the way R&S Sportfishing serves clients and approaches every fishing trip.

Building R&S Sportfishing

Through decades of dedication, time on the water, and a commitment to continuous learning, Richard transformed his passion into a professional guide service focused on helping others experience the incredible fisheries of the Columbia River.
